The Maker
Jim Lorriman started as a woodworker and at the age of 50 became a full time woodturner. His love of history and belief in sustainable practices led him to recycling and telling the stories of the wood he used. His show, History in the Making, launched at the Dufferin County Museum and Archives in September, 2014, will be going on the road in 2015. This show does exactly that; it tells the story of the wood and how Jim made the pieces from it.
Jim is often asked to donate pieces to various charities and non-profits. He feels strongly that there must be a connection between the work donated and the cause. There must also be a mutual respect between the maker and the receiving group.
Jim has worked successfully with several organizations to create meaningful pieces which have added value due to what they represent and the the stories that they tell.
